My apologies to one and all for the radio silence over most of the last two weeks. I've just returned from a 10-day pilgrimage to the Holy Land. I and my two oldest daughters, who at 13 and 10 are already pretty seasoned travelers, joined almost 80 other fellow churchgoers on a tour that included all the prominent historical sites any Christian could want to visit and experience, from Nazareth and Bethlehem to Jerusalem and the sea of Galilee and all points in between.
This was my first time visiting Israel and the first time I have ever traveled anywhere with a tour group, which I found surprisingly demanding on time and energy. It kept me busier than I expected — so much so that I barely had time even to respond to emails, much less get any writing done. In retrospect, that was a positive thing because it took me out of my routine and kept me focused on the spiritual purpose of the trip instead of being distracted by work.
I have an assignment to write about that pilgrimage but my article won't appear until the end of this month, so meanwhile I will share a little preview of it here on my Substack as soon as I can.
To all you new subscribers who signed up during my absence (many of you in response to my recent article on chivalry at Crisis magazine), thanks so much for joining up, and to all you current subscribers, thanks for your patience during this period of unexpected inactivity. Beginning Monday morning I'll be back on track, sending out the latest weekly newsletter and revving up content here through the week.
Until then, Make Western Civilization Great Again!
How exciting! I plan to visit Israel some day but look forward to hearing more about your trip.
