According to the Democrat Party, American democracy today faces a barrage of threats and attacks that are among the most serious in our country’s entire history.
Christmas Day on CBS’s Face the Nation, for example, Democrat Congressman Jamie Raskin declared that the Electoral College “has become a danger not just to democracy, but to the American people.” This was in the context of a discussion about what Raskin’s party calls an “insurrection” of Trump supporters on January 6, 2021, which President Biden referred to in April of that year as “the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.” (He changed his mind a couple of months later, calling the GOP’s election integrity laws the “most significant test of our democracy” since the Civil War. “That’s not hyperbole,” he insisted defensively.) The Left-dominated legacy news media even insists that mere indifference to the events of January 6 is a threat to democracy. The Progressive mouthpiece The New York Times labeled Trump himself “the greatest threat to American democracy since World War II.” But an even greater threat than Trump is the Republican Party as a whole. NY Times columnist Charles Blow identified the greatest threat as – you guessed it – white supremacy. The Los Angeles Times, meanwhile, identified the Supreme Court of the United States as “one of the biggest threats to American democracy.” Simply questioning election results threatens democracy too. As do election poll watchers. Ditto, freedom of speech and the filibuster. Concerned parents who challenge school boards? Definitely a major threat to democracy.
In short, everything that stands in the way of the Democrats’ mission to “fundamentally transform” the U.S. into a one-party state, everything that impedes the Left’s lust for power, is democracy’s mortal enemy.
The truth, as Freedom Center founder and bestselling author David Horowitz details in his new title from Humanix Books, Final Battle: The Next Election Could be the Last, is that it is today’s far-Left Democrat Party that poses the greatest threat to democracy. And unlike Biden’s blustery claim, that’s not hyperbole.
In a densely informative but gripping page-turner of a book, Horowitz makes his case that Joe Biden has overseen “the most overtly racist and anti-constitutional government in American history.” In attacking the Constitutional system the Founding Fathers built, which decentralized and restrained government power, and which enabled diverse communities to unite as one people, “the Democrats have conducted a sustained assault on the spirit of compromise that binds the union together.” Instead of healing our national division as Biden promised, he and his party have “set the nation on the path to a one-party state.” In the process, they have demonized half the country – their political opponents – as a white supremacist “threat to democracy.”
In a concise ten chapters and a conclusion, Horowitz lays out the areas in which Democrats have wreaked the most economic, social, and political devastation in a mere two years under the radical Biden administration. From institutionalizing election fraud to trumped-up (pardon the pun) claims of Republican “insurrection”; from open-borders fanaticism to the breakdown of law and order; from pandemic totalitarianism to the costly debacle of our Armed Forces withdrawal from Afghanistan; from cancel culture to climate change catastrophism, Final Battle is a catalogue of damning evidence that the Democrats are not merely incompetent but are devoted to realizing a communist vision of “equity” through all-powerful government coercion. Their Progressivism is anything but progressive; it is rebranded Marxism, a reactionary ideology that promises heaven on earth but has never failed to leave unprecedented misery and death in its wake. And they’re trying it once again.
Central to the new regime’s approach to governance, Horowitz demonstrates, is its “indictment of America as a racist nation.” That meant exploiting the lie that America is “systemically racist” to justify a massive redistribution of power and wealth, including reparations for slavery, to purported victim groups. It meant promoting the debunked historical fantasy of the 1619 Project, which argues falsely that the founding of the United States was rooted not in liberty but in slavery. It meant disseminating the racist worldview of Critical Race Theory in classrooms throughout the country. It meant backing the violent, neo-Marxist Black Lives Matter movement. It meant provoking a literal war on police officers, whose very origins lay in white supremacy, according to the Democrats.
Horowitz also turns his spotlight on the Biden administration’s imposition of “whole system change” through the climate change boondoggle of the Green New Deal; through middle class-busting inflation, overspending, and surging energy costs; and through crushing taxation that takes a heavy toll on families and businesses alike. As Horowitz puts it, “Changing the world – or reimagining it – to solve crises real and fictional has… been the common theme of every ideological tyranny – Fascist, Nazi and Communist – that has ravaged humanity in modern times.” The Biden administration’s vision of razing the country to the ground in order to “Build Back Better” is just such a tyrannical dream.
As Horowitz goes on to note, the Democrats holding the reins of power since 2021 also politicized the military and used COVID vaccine mandates to weed out the noncompliant dissidents among what has historically been a conservative-leaning institution. They weaponized the Department of Justice against American citizens –concerned parents, no less, who dared confront school boards about the outrageous leftist indoctrination targeting their children – and the Department of Homeland Security against political opponents whom it smeared as “white supremacists” and potential “domestic terrorists.” All while leaving the southern border unsecured against a tidal wave of illegals whom Democrats are counting on to vote “D.”
These points are only some of the crises and outrages Horowitz addresses in this slim volume, this sweeping indictment of the Democrat’s neo-Marxist agenda to dismantle all the checks and balances the Founding Fathers of our republic put in place to prevent one party from hoarding all power. This is the agenda the Left has been hell-bent on implementing, and Final Battle presents the sobering reality of where Americans are now.
But where are we headed? as Horowitz asks in his closing chapter title. Are America’s days as the freest, most prosperous nation in history numbered? Are we nearing the end of the unique American experiment? “Only a fool,” Horowitz states, could answer “no” to these questions today with any certainty. The Democrat Party’s “zealous advocacy of socialist economics and political fascism sets us on the path to a totalitarian future,” he concludes. “All that awaits the sad conclusion to these efforts are the gulags and deprogramming camps, which [the Democrats] are not shy about promoting.”
Is that hyperbole? Tragically, no, because the Democrats see their opponents not as fellow Americans who simply hold different political opinions, but as “deplorables,” as backward bigots, as violent fascists, as subhuman obstacles to the Left’s self-righteous vision of a utopian future. There is no place for us in their tolerant, inclusive collective. Just like under the communist regimes of the past, freedom-loving dissidents are fit only to be consigned to re-education camps or, for those who resist brainwashing, labor camps.
In Final Battle: The Next Election Could be the Last, David Horowitz has written what he believes is his most important book, because its message is so urgent and the stakes so high. Written with his usual pugilistic edge, it is a hard-hitting warning that our deeply-polarized country is in the grip of a cold civil war that promises to flare up into a conflagration – unless our political landscape is purged of the totalitarian radicals who threaten our former liberal democracy. And that’s no hyperbole.
